Bioethanol from sugarcane might be India's secret weapon in Independence from fossil fuels

Sugarcane is an important crop to take India’s quest for bioethanol for vehicles forward under its National Ethanol Blending Programme wherein it will increase the ethanol blend in petrol to 20%. But farmers moving away from sugarcane and depletion of groundwater are two major concerns that need to be addressed to achieve this target.
