Insights into chimp alcohol consumption may help us understand why humans drink. The ‘drunken monkey’ hypothesis suggests that human alcohol consumption was a genetic evolution that started with our frugivorous Afrotropical hominid ancestors. And since chimp diets are believed to be quite similar to our frugivorous common ancestor, studying their behaviour may give us a peak into our prehistoric past.

According to a new study, chimpanzees getting about 10 drinks a week.
