What do these fossilised corals reveal?
Over 7,000 years old Caribbean coral reef fossils revealed that fishing has altered the food-web, sizes and population of several species of fish over the millennia, and severely reduced the abundance of sharks. They also found one of the first pieces of evidence for "the predator release effect" phenomenon, wherein the size of prey-fish increases as their predators decrease.
